Coronavirus and Tips to Stay Healthy

February 27, 2020 / General NOVA News

Faculty and Staff, while we do not have any confirmed cases of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus, we wanted to share the steps the college is taking across our campuses to assist in keeping you and our students healthy, and provide reminders of what you can do yourself.

What can you do?

The best ways to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses are to:

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue (or the inside of your elbow). Immediately throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Get a flu vaccine if you have not yet done so.

What is NOVA doing?

Increasing the number of hand sanitizer stations in many campus locations.
Increasing cleaning service in high-traffic campus facilities.
Outreach to students, faculty and staff with preventative health information.

We will continue to communicate with the NOVA community as we learn more about the virus and any possible exposure. If you have recently traveled to Wuhan, China and have developed a fever with cough or shortness of breath within 14 days of your travel, or have had contact with someone who is suspected to have 2019 Novel Coronavirus, stay home. Call a medical professional and tell them about your recent travel and your symptoms.

NOVA OEMS has created a brand new Coronavirus information  page with easy to read tips you can download and share with students, colleagues and friends.  Click here to visit.  We will continue to share this information along with any updates that may occur.
