Led by Jill Caporale, Annandale Campus, and Breana Bayraktar, Woodbridge Campus, the session is designed to prompt a discussion after reading a chapter in the book Becoming A Critically Reflective Teacher. During the meet-up, the group will discuss chapter 6, entitled “Seeing Ourselves through Student’s Eyes.”
The chapter opens with the statement “Of all the pedagogic tasks teachers face, getting inside students’ heads is one of the trickiest. It’s also one of the most crucial.” You do not have to read the book or the chapter to join in the discussion, but you can access chapter 6 at https://drive.google.com/file/d/17FZYW9jWWbnSOP7yRS6TIUGnHTA3ZjnS/view?usp=sharing
What we say, or don’t say can have a vast impact on how a student feels or how they think we feel about them. Even small gestures may have enormous consequences, either positive or negative. Among the points we may discuss are answers to the following questions:
• How we can get feedback from our students and let them know that we are there for them?
• How we can improve our teaching online and in-person to be more student-focused?
• How we can create an online community, particularly now when it is so vital that our students maintain a connection with us and with one another?
Join the Chapter Book Group discussion on April 1 at 12pm.
