Kudos Tom Mayhew
Thomas Mayhew (Tom) has been an avid leader in NOVA being able to respond rapidly to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the Director of Emergency Management, he leads the OEMS (Office of Emergency Management and Safety) team, who have been working around the clock in prioritizing the health and safety of NOVA students, faculty, staff and surrounding community. The team’s diligent rapid response to the pandemic is to address COVID-19 concerns by working closely with community agencies such as health departments, Virginia Department of Emergency Management, The Virginia Department of Health, and both Virginia Community College System and NOVA leadership.
Before NOVA, Tom worked at the Federal Emergency Management Agency from 2003 to 2012 as a Public Assistance Coordinator. He is also a Certified Homeland Protection Professional and holds a Bachelors in Emergency Management from Concordia University.
Fun Fact: Tom enjoys playing the guitar and singing. He actually used to be in a band, and was the lead singer. Previously, Tom was also a volunteer Fire Chief in Prince William County. He comes from a family of fire department volunteers (mom, dad, and sister). Additionally, he spent a few years in law enforcement in Manassas Park and Middleburg. In his spare time, Tom likes to camp in his RV, hunt and complete home improvement projects around the house. Kudos Tom!
