NOVA Nursing Student Grateful She Never Gave Up on Her Dream

NOVA helps produce some of the selfless people who are working on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. The education and training students receive at NOVA prepares them to assist and support our communities in times of need.

Hannah Buckley is a NOVA alumna who recently returned to NOVA to help advance her nursing career. Her road to becoming an RN was anything but easy. When she began her nursing studies at a Virginia university, she received some very discouraging news. “I was told by my recruiter to change my major because I wouldn’t get into the program unless I had straight As, and also that I would have to retake the SATs,” said Hannah. However, she did not let this discouraging feedback deter her from pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse.

Hannah decided to return to NOVA and apply to the LPN program. She completed the program in 2012 as a member of the first graduating LPN class at the Medical Education Campus. She then finished her LPN to RN transition program at NOVA in 2015 and is currently taking courses that will transfer to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Taking those at NOVA is a fraction of the cost of a four-year school.

Hannah is grateful for the education and support she received at NOVA. It helped her to live her dream as a registered nurse. “Never give up on your dreams no matter how long it takes you to get there or which route you take. Thank you, NOVA, for not giving up on me and allowing me to pursue my dreams!”
