Nighthawks Rugby to Join the Capital Geographic Union D2 Conference
COVID-19 is really cramping the style of sports fans! However, Loudoun Student Life received an exciting update recently! Nighthawks Rugby has been invited to participate in the Capital Rugby Union’s Collegiate Division 2 Conference. NOVA is the only community college program that will play at the D2 level in the region, and this marks a huge step forward for the program and our student athletes.
While the conference and all of the schools in it are a bit unsure what the fall will look like, everyone is preparing to compete in 2020, but will be prepared to pivot to the spring 2021 semester if need be.
The Capital Rugby Union is separated into three divisions: North, Central and South. Originally planning to compete in the Central Division, NOVA will instead be placed in the highly-competitive Northern Division. The 2020/21 CRU North Division will be made up of teams from: Northern Virginia Community College, University of Maryland, Towson University, University of Maryland – Baltimore County and Johns Hopkins University.
We are excited to meet the new challenge ahead and will be prepared to make our NOVA Community proud, both on the field and off!
