All NOVA Faculty, Staff Must Run Zoom Upgrades and New Security Defaults by 5/31
If you have not been reading the emails from the IT Help Desk about the Zoom Upgrades and Security Settings, please do. These Zoom changes apply to everyone! Everyone must upgrade Zoom to the latest version, Version 5.0x by Saturday, May 30. If you do not, it probably will not work after that. It is a simple and quick process. You probably have even gotten reminders when you log into Zoom. Please do it! If you have problems, leave enough time to contact the IT Help Desk for assistance. Most people can do it easily on their own, even on college laptops. Before calling the help desk to see if you are on the right version, please check here: NVCC_Update_Your_Zoom_Client_on_Windows_and_Mac_How_To. This will guide you through the process and tell you how to verify you are on the most current version. PLEASE REMIND YOUR STUDENTS TO UPGRADE ZOOM, too.
On Friday, the security settings we have been sending out for weeks become the standard defaults. Be sure you look at them. Annotation is turned off. If you need it, go into settings and turn it on. The waiting room and passwords are turned on for everyone. That means you have to watch the participant list and let people in. Just make the participant list visible. You can see who is waiting. You can turn them off in settings, but you assume the security risk for Zoom bombing. NOTE: These settings will not be defaults for meetings that have already been scheduled. The new default settings will take effect Friday, but because of how the VCCS network operates, they will reset any changes you make to through June 3. After that, any changes you make in settings will stay the way you set them. These are same security settings we have been sending out for weeks! Now, they will be set as the defaults for all meetings.
