FSRC Staff Go Above and Beyond for NOVA

May 28, 2020 / Faculty/Staff Highlights

The Faculty and Staff Resource Center (FSRC) at NOVA-Annandale is lucky to have Hector Revollo and Kama Storie leading their efforts to assist staff and faculty with every sort of technology training. They have been indispensable over this past year as NOVA began transitioning to Canvas, and certainly this semester during the change to remote instruction due to COVID-19, they have made themselves available to anyone in need of assistance. English as a Second Language and World Language Faculty have been especially appreciative of Kama’s and Hector’s work. Here are only a few of the accolades shared by others:

“Hector was very helpful with Zoom in this COVID time. He got back to me right away and answered my questions. Over the years, I have attended various training sessions with Hector and have always appreciated that he is there to patiently help us.” (Jennifer Aykens, AN Faculty, German)

“Hector and Kama have always been helpful, even before the Coronavirus and its impact. Their help continued and heightened (if that is possible) once we moved to virtual teaching and learning. Many thanks for their expertise, support, patience and calm!” (Cheri Bridgeforth, AN Faculty, English as a Second Language)

“Hector and Kama and the staff at FSRC have been lifesavers to me. Their patience and expertise have always been a great support to me, but now that we are learning new things so we can teach more effectively from home, it is clear that we couldn’t function without them. From Zoom to Canvas Studio, to online grading, they have helped me every step of the way. Thank you to the FSRC!” (Mary Charleza, AN Faculty, English as a Second Language)

“I would like to recognize Ms. Kama Storie for her immense dedication in helping staff, colleagues and adjuncts with the new “remote teaching” through Canvas that we all had to adopt very quickly. I am impressed by Kama’s numerous skills, the meeting sessions that she offered and her willingness to go beyond her time limit. Kama is a lifesaver! Kama is always courteous and engaged when giving simple instructions on using technology with Canvas. I would like to express my gratitude and thanks for the trainings that I have with Kama and for continuing instruction on specific issues arising with Canvas.” (Marie-Jayne Strauss, AN Faculty, French)

Both Kama and Hector work very hard to keep up with the changes in the new technologies, as well as finding the best way to share their knowledge with faculty and staff. It’s important to not only be knowledgeable of the software but also knowledgeable about how to teach it to faculty without overwhelming them or giving them irrelevant information. Both Hector and Kama excel in that.

Please accept our words of gratitude for doing your work with grace and patience. They are our Quarantine heroes!
