Intl Student Advisor Michael Tucker to Retire after 43 years with VCCS, NOVA

Dr. Michael Tucker will be retiring from NOVA after an extraordinary 43 years of service with the VCCS and NOVA. Dr. Tucker began his higher education career working as counselor at J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College that led to positions as coordinator of counseling and acting dean of students there. He joined NOVA in 1994 as a counselor and transitioned to serving in international student services in 2005 where he oversaw the Annandale International Students office until 2019. After 25 years on the Annandale Campus, Dr. Tucker spent this last year supporting international students at the Loudoun, Manassas and Woodbridge campuses. In addition to his work with international students, Dr. Tucker also represented NOVA overseas and was a recipient of the Fulbright International Administrators Award in Korea. Dr. Tucker holds a Bachelor of Social Work from East Tennessee State University, a Master of Science degree in Community College Counseling from Illinois State University and a Doctor of Arts from George Mason University in Community College Education with a specialization in Conflict Resolution. His love of travel and cultural immersion has led him to travel extensively in Asia and Latin America.

Dr. Tucker will be greatly missed by his International Student Services team and all the faculty, staff and students he has encountered over his four decades of service. We wish him a very well-deserved and happy retirement!
