NOVA-Loudoun Religion Adjunct Sayed Hassan Hussaini Publishes New Work
Dr. Sayed Hassan Akhlaq Hussaini, adjunct professor of religion at the Loudoun Campus, recently published papers in two journals:
- “When Sufism Meets Politics (the Ups and Downs of Nasafi’s Perspective)” was published in “Journal of South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies,” Villanova University, Summer 2020 Vol. 43: Iss. 4, Pp. 74-89.
- “Introducing a Comparative Ecotheology: Islamic Concept of Basmalah and Luther’s Commentary on the Ten Commandments” in “Consensus, A Canadian Journal of Public Theology,” Canadian Lutheran theology co-sponsored by Martin Luther University College in Waterloo, Ontario and Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. 2020, Vol. 41: Iss. 1, Art.1.
The first paper examined the relationship between Sufism, a spiritual philosophy in Islam, and politics. The concept of Perfect Human and good society is discussed with regard to the political view of Aziz ad-Din Nasafi (d. 1252). The second paper introduces a new comparative theology between Christianity and Islam that honors the Earth. Previously, the idea was presented at the “Sustainability and Climate in Religion” Conference, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Bergen, Feb. 14th, 2020.
Dr. Hussaini earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy and is graduate of Islamic Seminary.
