NOVA PD’s John Weinstein Wins Awards from Public Safety Writers Association

Lieutenant John Weinstein, Strategic Planning and Outreach for NOVA Police, has received second and third place awards by the Public Safety Writers Association in their 2020 Writing Competition. Weinstein won in the category of Creative Non-Fiction, Technical, Published for the following articles:

  • “22 Rules For New Campus Police and Security Officers” second place
  • “The Challenge of Innovation in Law Enforcement Organizations” third place

These articles were also published in the International Association of Chiefs of Police magazine.

Weinstein has extensive experience in all aspects of planning and security operations and teaches on numerous law enforcement topics including firearms, active shooter response tactics, planning and communications at local police academies. He leads the training on many of these topics and more that are listed in the award winning NOVA Public Safety Newsletter that many faculty, staff, students and community members have attended. He contributes regularly to Campus Safety magazine, where he serves on the editorial board. Weinstein holds a Ph.D. in International Politics, is a cross-country motorcyclist and amateur radio operator.
