IMPORTANT REMINDER: Watch for COVID19-Related Scams and Unsolicited Offers of Retirement Services
From time to time, the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) and Human Resources receive reports from employees that companies or groups have contacted them via email or phone to offer retirement counseling services or insurance products. With passage of the CARES Act, which allows COVID19-related distributions from certain retirement plans, unsolicited calls to employees may increase.
To that end, please continue to be aware of the following:
- VRS does not visit employees’ homes to discuss benefits.
- VRS does not use unsolicited calls to contact members to offer services.
- VRS does not sell services; all benefit counseling is free to members and retirees.
- Correspondence from VRS will arrive by U.S. mail on official letterhead.
- Emails from VRS will be sent from a “varetire.org” address and include the VRS logo and copyright.
- Notification of invitations by VRS for one-on-one retirement counseling appointments will come from NOVA’s Office of Human Resources.
