Dr. Hong Wang, associate director of instructional technology training at NOVA Online, recently presented at the Online Learning Consortium (OLC) Innovate Conference. The conference, initially scheduled in Chicago for early April, was re-scheduled as a fully-virtual conference in the summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wang’s first presentation, “Innovation, Collaboration and Advocacy: Strategies and Lessons Learned from Faculty Professional Development on Hybrid Learning,” shared how the College prepares faculty to teach hybrid courses through a NOVA Online professional development course, and how faculty shared best practices in hybrid course development and delivery to build a community of practice at NOVA.

With her comprehensive experience in course design, technology integration in teaching and faculty professional development, Wang has developed the online course on Canvas. She manages the college-wide training program for faculty, and she has been collaborating with faculty to promote a community of effective practices in hybrid learning through a grant from NOVA Educational Foundation.

In Wang’s second presentation, “Taking Your Courses from Snores to Scores: Digital Ways to Create Meaningful Learning Experience in Online and Hybrid Courses,” she shared her teaching experience in leveraging technology to engage students for meaningful learning in online and hybrid courses. Wang served on the Online Learning Consortium’s Community College Summit Committee this year, collaborating with experts and faculty from community colleges nationwide and advocating for quality online learning since community colleges offer a variety of online programs for diverse populations. She moderated breakout sessions for the summit at the conference, and she also serves as a conference proposal reviewer for OLC.
