Gov. Northam Now Accepting Nominations for 2020 Governor’s Honor Awards

August 31, 2020 / HR News/Training

Governor Northam has announced the call for nominations for the 2020 Governor’s Honor Awards. This is the highest honor for classified and wage employees of the Commonwealth of Virginia and an opportunity to nominate NOVA employees who have demonstrated noteworthy accomplishments that have significantly contributed to the advancement of the Commonwealth’s strategic goals, mission, objectives and overall excellence.

As you may recall, Dan Dusseau, NOVA’s Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police was nominated and selected last year as the recipient of the 2019 Governor’s Honor Award for the category of Administration Excellence.

Details about the Governor’s Honor Awards can be found on the DHRM Governor’s Honor Awards website. The website includes information about each of the 11 Honor Award Categories, FAQS for Employees and FAQS for Supervisors. All classified full-time, classified part-time and wage employees may be nominated for the awards. The College Senate will convene a committee to review all NOVA nominations prior to sending the nominations to President Kress for approval.

If there is an eligible NOVA employee you believe should be nominated in one of the 11 award categories, please submit your nomination Here. Please remember to make sure your nomination complies with the Governor’s Awards 2020 – Justification Template. All nominations must be received by Tuesday, September 1, 2020. This will allow the committee time to review and submit recommendations to the President prior to the Sept.15 deadline. Nominations must address the significance of the contribution/accomplishment relative to the category, the impact on NOVA’s mission and strategic goals, demonstrated creativity or resourcefulness and/or demonstrated benefits to NOVA or the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Please consider nominating one of our outstanding eligible employees who have demonstrated unique or exceptional contributions to NOVA and the Commonwealth.
