Registration Now Open for VIVA’s 2020 Open and Affordable Community Forum
Beginning in 2019, VIVA, Virginia’s academic library consortium, began hosting an annual Open & Affordable Course Content Forum, covering existing and emerging issues concerning open textbooks. An “open textbook” is a textbook with an open copyright license and made available online to be freely used by students, teachers and members of the public. Because many open textbooks are available as ebooks, this forum comes at the perfect time to learn how to use electronic textbooks in your classroom.
The 2020 forum is a free virtual event, which will be held on Sept. 25, from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. This year’s theme is OER in Virginia: Creating a Caring Community. Dr. Amy Collier, a leading thinker in digital pedagogies and open and online learning, will be the keynote speaker. Sessions will include: “Open and Affordable Course Marking in Virginia”; “United Nations Open Anti-Poverty Toolkit”; “Cleary You Can: Suddenly Open Resources”; and a faculty-student panel on OER in the classroom.
