National Preparedness Month: Prepare Like It’s a Zombie Apocalypse!
We all have that one friend, the one whose house you’d run to during the zombie apocalypse. The friend who is ready to survive and live off the grid. You might joke about how prepared they are, but you’re completely serious about being on their zombie apocalypse team. That friend has built their kit, has a stock of supplies they may need for emergencies, and is truly prepared for the worst. But, what’s in your kit? Are you prepared to be without power? Could you provide first aid until help arrives? Could you survive the zombie apocalypse long enough to make it to your friend’s house?
While the zombie apocalypse level of preparedness might seem a bit much for some, every household should be prepared to survive for at least 72 hours in the event of a disaster. In the most likely scenario, think big winter snowstorm where your home may be without power or access to other supplies due to road conditions. Building a kit should not just be limited to your home. Your work location and your car should also get their own emergency preparedness kits. Have a kit prepared at your NOVA workspace. This kit should be built to survive a 24-hour shelter-in-place emergency.
Be a good zombie apocalypse team member. Build a home and work kit to make it through the first few days of the apocalypse. A good team doesn’t rely solely on one player to carry them through, but instead, each member fulfills a role within the team. Make sure you’re able to survive until you can get to your apocalypse team’s (or your family’s) designated meeting point.
