President’s Sabbatical Award Application Deadline, Nov. 1

Have you been on the NOVA faculty for six years or more? Do you have an idea you have wanted to work on without other distractions? Do you want a semester with full pay and benefits and no classes, meetings or committee work? Then, apply for the PRESIDENT’S SABBATICAL AWARD!

Each academic year, a maximum of three faculty members, one of whom can be on a 12-month contract, can receive the award. 12-Month administrative faculty may take their sabbatical in the Summer. The deadline to apply is November 1, 2020.

To apply, follow the directions below:

  1. Award proposals should be no more than 1,000 words and specify how the sabbatical leave will uniquely benefit both the individual and the College.
  2. The proposal and NVCC Form 105-100 should be sent electronically to the chair of the Personnel Services Committee, Alicia Tucker (atucker@nvcc.edu), by November 1. (NVCC Form 105-100 is available in the Forms Library)
  3. To qualify for the President’s Sabbatical Award and to be eligible for sabbatical leave applicants must have either:
    a. completed six years of service in the VCCS;
    b. or, if a previous winner, they must have six years of service completed since their last award.
  4. The sabbatical may not be used to complete dissertation research or writing.
  5. Review the Rubric posted on the Personnel Services Committee Webpage. (You may be directed to supply your NVCC email and password.)

The members of the Personnel Services Committee (who are not eligible to apply) will review all proposals and offer recommendations to the President of the College who will choose the winners in the spring.

Upon completion of the sabbatical, the recipient will present his/her work to the NOVA community either at the College Convocation or a similar gathering. A written report will accompany the presentation.
