New History Advising Guide

October 30, 2020 / General NOVA News

The History Discipline created a new flyer for advisors. History courses are engaging when students study the subjects they are most passionate about. Students should choose topics that interest them. History classes can be taken in any order. All history Gen. Ed. courses fulfill NOVA’s degree requirements.

The attached History Advising Flyer is a guide to help all of us aid students in picking the best survey course to match both student interest and transfer suggestions.

Here is a quick rundown:
-History 122 and 121 focus on the history of the United States.
-History 112 and 111 focus on global history including societies in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe.
-History 102 and 101 focus on societies that originate in Europe and the Mediterranean.
-History surveys are divided chronologically. To study early history pick a class ending in “1.” To study more recent history pick a class that ends in “2.”

If you have questions, reach out to John Kincheloe or ask any history faculty member.
