Tell Your Story of NOVA Alumni Lighting the Path for Students
Last week, the NOVA Educational Foundation’s annual event, Empowering Bright Futures, went virtual, but on that evening, a small group of Foundation Board members gathered in a very large room at the gorgeous Stone Tower Winery to host the livestream of the event. And, this is how I learned the winery is owned by two of our alumni, Mike and Kristi Huber (who also happened to meet at NOVA). Among the evening’s pre-recorded greetings were remarks from Virginia Secretary of Education Atif Qarni, also a NOVA alum. The event honored Loudoun non-profit 100WomenStrong for their generous gift to the COVID-19 Student Emergency Aid Fund, and the story of another NOVA alum and tech entrepreneur Joshua Anton came up in the group’s acceptance remarks.
You may be sensing a theme here: in addition to raising $155,000 in support of our NOVA Nighthawks, the event for me raised a call to action: let’s do more to identify our outstanding alumni so that their stories can inspire our students.
To this end, I’m asking you to share the stories of notable NOVA alumni you’ve taught, advised, mentored or know: individuals whose careers model what it means to be Boldly NOVA. NOVA Nighthawks are everywhere. Our alumni have achieved levels of professional success that can light the path for our current students and help them see that their dreams are possible.
If you have an alumni story to share, please email it to me at PresidentsOffice@nvcc.edu. Thank you!
