Governor to Appropriate CARES Act One-Time Employee Stipends
Using federal CARES Act funding appropriated to the Virginia Community College System by Governor Northam, NOVA will provide eligible employees with a one-time reimbursement stipend for costs associated with transitioning to mandatory telework and remote instruction due to the pandemic.
These one-time stipends–in the amount of $550 for eligible full-time faculty and staff and $397 for eligible adjunct faculty and part-time (wage) employees–are intended to cover a portion of the costs associated with the transition to telework and remote instruction. Employees are not required to supply documentation of expenses to receive the stipend. Please note that members of Administrative Council are not eligible for the stipends. The following groups of employees are also not eligible for the stipends: (1) employees whose duties were already 100% online as of the date of the federal emergency declaration; (2) employees whose duties were not transitioned to telework or remote instruction due to the pandemic and (3) student employees whose positions are funded by Federal Work Study grants.
The use of federal CARES Act funding to provide these one-time employee stipends is consistent with the requirement for these funds.
NOVA is grateful to Governor Northam, our federal delegation and the U.S. Department of Education for these resources and their allocation to our faculty and staff. And, I extend my thanks to Vice President Ina Dimkova and Associate Vice President Charlotte Calobrisi for their diligence in working with VCCS and NOVA offices to ensure processes to award these funds were in place.
Eligible full-time employees will receive the stipends with their Dec. 16 paycheck, and eligible adjunct and part-time (wage) employees will receive the stipends with their Dec. 18 paycheck. If you have questions, please contact Charlotte Calobrisi at ccalobrisi@nvcc.edu.
