Join the CSFC Open Meeting and Presentation on “Bias, Racism, Privilege and Fragility,” Dec. 3
The Classified Staff Forum Council will host its open meeting on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. Join us in welcoming Alexandria Pathway Counselor Brent Via, who will present on “Bias, Racism, Privilege and Fragility.” He will explore how to identify and combat implicit bias, how to better understand systemic racism, the ways in which each of us possess privileged identities and how fragility plays a role in social justice work. Mr. Via has worked in higher education for eight years, with the most recent three being at NOVA. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Community College Leadership through Old Dominion University.
The purpose of the College Staff Forum Council (CSFC) is to serve as an instrument for the formulation and expression of faculty, student and staff points of view as represented by staff who report up through vice presidents rather than belonging to a specific campus. The Council typically considers questions relevant to its constituencies. It advises and seeks advice from the Admin Council representative, through the VP, to the President of the College. CSFC also communicates with and makes recommendations to campus committees, college committees and/or the College Senate.
While we are meeting remotely, please contact Kristy Balbuena (kbalbuena@nvcc.edu), Jack Zegeer (jzegeer@nvcc.edu) or Dana Reilly (dareilly@nvcc.edu) for the link to the meeting. We look forward to working with you and for you.
