Woodbridge History Prof. Maureen Santelli Publishes New Book

December 3, 2020 / Faculty/Staff Highlights

Maureen Connors Santelli, a history professor at the Woodbridge Campus, has published a book called The Greek Fire: American-Ottoman Relations and Democratic Fervor in the Age of Revolutions. The book will be released this month.

The Greek Fire examines the United States’ early global influence as a fledgling nation that inserted itself in conflicts that were oceans away. The book focuses on early American fascination with the Greek War of Independence from the Ottoman Empire in the 1820s and 1830s and how this came to infuse a global perspective into domestic conversations concerning the abolition of slavery and women’s rights. The book is available for purchase online Here.
