Connie Kirkland Receives Domestic Violence Community Vanguard Award

NOVA’s Office of Student Services is pleased to share that Connie Kirkland, director of the Office of Wellness and Mental Health has received The Domestic Violence (DV) Community Vanguard Award from Fairfax County Domestic and Sexual Violence Services. The DV Community Vanguard Award was created to recognize those who have dedicated their careers to working to end domestic and sexual violence and who have had a very special, long-lasting impact on their communities.

For more than 40 years Connie has worked in crime victim advocacy, as a college instructor and as a criminal justice researcher and trainer. Since 2012, she has been the director of the Office of Wellness and Mental Health at NOVA, where she is a member of the Threat Assessment Team, coordinates behavioral intervention and support services for the college, and she serves as the college confidential victim advocate.
