H.R. Seeking VCCS Search Advocates

January 29, 2021 / HR News/Training

The HR Employment Team is pleased to introduce the VCCS Search Advocate Program. This program supports NOVA’s commitment to creating a more diverse, fair, inclusive and equitable workplace by eliminating unconscious, unintentional biases and upholding inclusive search and selection practices.

Search advocates will learn principles and strategies to advance NOVA’s strategic diversity goals, equal opportunity principles and diversity and inclusion values. Search advocates will work collaboratively with hiring managers and search committees to enhance the integrity and effectiveness of the search and selection process. They will provide guidance and support by identifying barriers in the recruitment process and help identify a diverse and qualified pool of candidates.

NOVA’s Search Advocate Program will require volunteers from across the College. Training for search advocates will be provided before assignments are given. All interested full-time faculty and classified employees are encouraged to volunteer and work with their supervisor and appropriate Administrative Council member to submit the Search Advocate – Statement of Interest Form to SearchAdvocate@nvcc.edu. The first review of employees interested in becoming a search advocate will begin Feb. 14.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to be a part in advancing NOVA’s diversity goals. If you have any questions about the Search Advocate Program, please direct your questions to SearchAdvocate@nvcc.edu.
