The Advising Academy: Your Resource for Training
What do you need to know to be a great advisor? NOVA’s Advising Academy on Canvas has the resources and trainings you need to establish or hone your advising skills!
The Academy has three training tracks; follow the one that fits your advising role:
1. Professional Advisors
2. Faculty Advisors
3. Remote Student Support Specialists
Each track contains a list of expectations and modules for advising training. No one knows everything that is needed for advising, so the Advising Academy provides information and resources to help and support you in your important role to promote student success.
New workshops are being added based on needs and best practices. Here are two important advising workshops:
- “Connecting with your Advising Caseload” by Kerry Coleman-Proksch, retention counselor for the Pathway to the Baccalaureate program. (When clicking the link, the video will appear in the bottom bar of your browser. Click Open File to view the video.)
- “First Generation Students – What you need to know” by Alex Coppelman, counselor for the Pathway to the Baccalaureate program
Watch the Daily Flyer for more training opportunities throughout February 2021.
