NOVA Grassroots Group for Advocacy and Equity’s Inaugural Squares Program

February 9, 2021 / Events

All NOVA employees are invited to join the NOVA Grassroots Group for Advocacy and Equity’s inaugural Squares Program. Modeled after CETL Squares, this is an informal cross-training and networking opportunity to break down information silos at NOVA and promote shared knowledge, experience and understanding.

The Grassroots Group for Advocacy and Equity is a collective of NOVA staff, professional faculty and teaching faculty interested in working together to promote diversity, equity and inclusion at the College. It was founded by Margarita Martinez (AN) and Indigo Eriksen (WO) during summer 2020, following global protests for racial justice. The Grassroots Group meets monthly via Zoom to share experiences and knowledge and promotes action-oriented change aimed at dismantling white supremacy. If you are interested in being a part of the Grassroots Group, please email grassroots@nvcc.edu for details.

Squares participants will shadow and observe how different employees conduct their duties at NOVA. Each Square is a cohort of four employees across the college. This is a unique cross-training opportunity and a great way to meet colleagues of different backgrounds, at different campuses and in different roles across the College. In addition to observing your colleagues, each Square team will be provided with processing prompts to be used for reflection and personal growth.

To complete a participant application and review the objectives, goals and terms of participation, please visit: http://bit.ly/SquaresApp. Applications are due Friday, Feb. 19. An online information session and meet and greet will take place Friday, Feb. 26, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Send questions to grassroots@nvcc.edu. Space is limited.
