NOVA’S Tom Mayhew Selected as a Finalist for Director of the Year by Campus Safety Magazine
NOVA’s own Tom Mayhew, director of the Office of Emergency Management and Safety, was recently named by Campus Safety Magazine as a finalist for the 2021 Director of the Year. Among Tom’s notable achievements were his initiative to assign unique addresses to more than 100 college buildings, providing identifiers for each entrance to facilitate expeditious entry by first responders in an emergency. He created an outreach program that made the campus community aware of life-saving management programs and activities across the entire crisis response spectrum, including prevention and preparation, response, medication and recovery. And he developed and executed NOVA’s first full-scale emergency exercise.
“I am so proud of Tom and his team. We have always known how knowledgeable and talented he was, but with the COVID crisis, his leadership skills have been more evident at the College,” said Dan Dusseau, NOVA’s chief of police. “Now the rest of the Country knows how fortunate we are to have Tom leading our Emergency Management and Safety efforts at NOVA.”
Tom was among 15 emergency managers from across the nation who were named as finalists.
The winner will be announced later this summer At the campus safety conference east which will be held July 11-13 in Bethesda, Md.
