Safeguard Your Meetings with Zoom Security Settings

February 19, 2021 / Tech Notes & Training

Just as a reminder, please use your Zoom security options when scheduling a meeting to ensure no unauthorized users can enter your meeting. You have three security features available when you schedule meetings:

1. Add a passcode. This ensures no student can enter without the passcode. You may not need to use this inside your Canvas courses as only students in your course can access this link directly.
2. Add a waiting room. This allows you as the host to allow students in. It also ensures that no students enter the meeting before you do. This feature can be turned on or off in the Participants list inside your Zoom meeting.
3. MOST IMPORTANTLY. Require VCCS authentication to join the meeting. This ensures that ONLY students with a VCCS email account can enter. This is a MUST so that only students (or faculty) can join your meetings. Make sure “Sign in with your MyVCCS account” is enabled. This will force participants to sign in with their VCCS accounts.
