NOVA Emeritus Professors Robert Loser and Reva Savkar have established a program to provide grants for students who have been program-placed in nursing and health sciences at NOVA’s Medical Education Campus, have completed at least one semester in the program and maintained a 2.0 grade point average.

Administered by the NOVA Foundation, the Loser-Savkar You Matter program will provide grants to eligible students of up to $750 to use to support tuition and program-related books, software and supplies like uniforms.

“We honor, value and feel deep appreciation, respect and gratitude for all our front-line healthcare professionals during this pandemic and at all times,” said Professors Loser and Savkar. “We would like to support our students and let them know ‘you matter.’”

Applications for the 2021-2022 academic year will be accepted from Feb. 15 to March 15 Here.

“The main reason that students admitted to our competitive and selective programs withdraw is because of finances,” said MEC Provost Nicole Reaves. “This grant program will truly make a difference! Our students, our country and the world need more people like them considering our current state of affairs.”

Professor Emeritus Robert Loser, NOVA Instructional Designer from 1986 until he retired in 2016, was a pioneer in the use of online technologies. His wife, Professor Emerita Reva Savkar, winner of the 2013 VCCS Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence, retired in 2017 after teaching chemistry and computer science at the Annandale Campus for 43 Years.

The NOVA Foundation, more formally known as the Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation was founded in 1979. The Foundation provides scholarships, emergency student aid and program grants to support NOVA students and faculty by securing private donations from individuals and businesses.
