New Practice to Support Inclusive Excellence at NOVA
NOVA’s DEI Strategic Plan will be grounded in a framework of Inclusive Excellence. A hallmark of this framework is providing equitable opportunities for professional growth and development to our valued employees so that, whenever and wherever possible, they can continue to grow and progress in their careers at NOVA. In Dr. Carter’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion listening sessions that are informing the plan, NOVA employees shared an interest in having interim or acting leadership opportunities publicized across the college so that more individuals were made aware and could be considered.
In support of the Inclusive Excellence pillar of Access and Success, I share the following with the NOVA Community, and with this announcement, inaugurate a new practice for NOVA in filling interim leadership roles at our College. Interim Provost for the Medical Education Campus
NOVA congratulates Provost Nicole Reaves on her new role as Executive Vice President at Wake Technical Community College (NC). With her departure later this semester, NOVA is seeking an interim Provost to serve the Medical Education Campus from April 19, 2021 to approximately December 31, 2021.
The interim Provost must hold a doctorate from a regionally accredited institution, which in accordance with VCCS policy for this position includes the Ph.D., D.A., D.Sc. and Ed.D. In addition, the interim Provost must have at least three years of progressive administrative responsibility, including responsibility for program oversight, personnel supervision and budget management.
For the period of this appointment, the interim Provost must commit to working at the Medical Education Campus and maintaining an active and visible presence throughout that campus and the community. The interim Provost will sit as a full member of the Administrative Council, with all associated responsibilities, and will report to the President. Acting pay, in accordance with VCCS policy, will be provided for the duration of this appointment.
NOVA employees who meet these qualifications, understand the requirements and wish to be considered for the role of interim MEC Provost should submit a one-page letter of interest to Corinne Hurst in the President’s Office no later than March 26 at noon (churst@nvcc.edu). Please include the subject line “MEC Provost” in your email. The interim Provost will be selected and appointed by the President from the pool of qualified individuals expressing interest.
Please Note: This announcement does not constitute or replace the full search for NOVA’s Medical Education Campus Provost. A national search based on the complete EWP for this position will be conducted by NOVA during Fall 2021. The interim Provost is eligible to apply if this individual meets all position criteria as defined in the EWP. The expectation is that the successful candidate in the national search will begin their appointment as MEC Provost no later than January 2022.
