Professor Jill Caporale to Present Online Teaching Webinar, March 26

March 25, 2021 / Events

We often discuss instructional strategies and assessment practices in teaching, but what do we do to address the social and emotional dimensions of learning for all students? How do we make all students feel less isolated and more connected in an online learning environment, particularly during an emergency remote teaching time due to the COVID-19 pandemic? Professor Jill Caporale will discuss strategies to address these questions at a webinar NOVA Online offers to promote best practices in hybrid and online teaching.

Caporale is an associate professor of biology at the Annandale Campus where she has taught for over 30 years. During her roles as an Assistant Dean and a faculty mentor, she has provided support to her colleagues through webinars and consultations. She has presented at numerous conferences, including the National Community College Humanities Association, Johns Hopkins University (JHU), New Horizons and various NOVA forums in areas such as fostering community, studying abroad, communicating science to a non-science audience, and creating connections between academic disciplines. Professor Caporale is a strong believer in global education and experiential learning. She has taught study abroad courses in Brazil, Costa Rica, Fiji, Honduras, and Cuba with NOVA and JHU. One of her greatest joys is introducing students to the world under the ocean and watching them as they see coral reefs for the first time. She has two graduate degrees from American University; one in biology (molecular/cellular) and another in communication (film and video).
