Update on Salary Equity Studies
Several years ago, under previous leadership, NOVA initiated salary equity studies for our Classified Staff and Professional and Administrative Faculty, but as college leadership transitioned, the studies were not completed and, thus, were not funded. Understandably, this has been a topic of concern for many of you. Moving these studies off the shelf and identifying the resources to fund them has been one of my priorities. The cost of living in Northern Virginia can be challenging, and NOVA recognizes the need to compensate our valued employees competitively.
So, I am pleased to share that Human Resources has been working with our external consultants to update and complete the equity studies, and the Office of Finance and Administration has allocated a budget in the upcoming budget year (2021-2022) to fund all resulting adjustments. With this, each equity study will have been completed and funded.
The results of the Classified Staff equity study, the first to be finalized, are available for your review on our NOVAnet intranet here. This report provides an overview of the methodology, comparison group and results while preserving the privacy of individual employees. Human Resources will contact employees receiving equity adjustments over the next month.
Any equity adjustment will be in addition to the already announced 5% increase awarded to state employees in Virginia’s budget. Both the equity adjustments and the state increase are effective June 10, 2021 and will be reflected in the July 1 paycheck.
My appreciation goes out to you for your patience, and I thank CFO/VP Ina Dimkova and AVP Charlotte Calobrisi and their teams for their diligence and dedication to this effort.
