NOVA’s Commitment to Accessibility Compliance
As an extension of Inclusive Excellence, NOVA is reaffirming our commitment to a stance of non-discrimination for individuals with disabilities. NOVA will make all programs and services, including electronic and information technology, accessible to people with disabilities. It is important that all faculty and staff ensure that programs, activities and communication materials submitted for publication are in compliance with Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
NOVA’s Office of Disability Support Services stands ready to provide guidance and resources to faculty and staff on how to develop educational programming, educational instruction content and communication materials that are compliant with state and federal laws.
Faculty and staff can review Disability Resources for Faculty and Staff here.
Employees interested in learning more about ADA accommodations should contact Human Resources at ada@nvcc.edu and read more about the ADA process here.
Dr. Nathan Carter, NOVA’s chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer said, “In the wake of the pandemic, students and employees who self-identify with a disability should not be ignored. We will truly live up to Inclusive Excellence when we work together and use best practices for following state and federal requirements. In addition, we must work together to create education content that is multi-modal and accessible for people with differing physical conditions, abilities and ways of communicating, interpreting and contributing to our college community.”
Watch the Daily Flyer in the coming days for more information on how to make your communication pieces accessible under the ADA.
