NOVA’s Office of Institutional Research (OIR) Provides Survey Research Expertise

NOVA’s Office of Institutional Research (OIR), part of the College’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success (OIESS), supports NOVA community members’ survey research efforts. OIR’s survey outreach services include:

• Assistance with survey design
• Identification of survey populations
• Administration of online surveys
• Analysis of survey data
• Reporting of survey results

OIR uses Qualtrics and ThoughtExchange, NOVA’s licensed web survey tools, for survey design and delivery. OIR follows best practices in conducting survey research, including maintaining confidentiality and minimizing bias in survey design. OIR also offers helpful strategies for optimizing collection of useful data, reducing survey fatigue, and facilitating summary and analysis of survey results.

Additionally, OIR administers many surveys routinely. Before creating your own survey, please consider whether data from one of OIR’s surveys may fit your needs.
