Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Coming to NOVA

May 25, 2021 / General NOVA News

A few years ago, NOVA initiated a project with the goal of providing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for use on NOVA’s campuses. With the proliferation of electric vehicles, providing electric vehicle charging as a service will further NOVA’s sustainability goals.

Through collaboration between Parking Services, Facilities, VCCS, and the Annandale Campus team, a pilot project to bring EV charging stations to the Annandale campus is currently undergoing a required design review by the Division of Engineering and Buildings (DEB) in Richmond.

The chargers will be installed in the Annandale Campus Parking Garage (CP Building on the campus map) on Level 1.

There will be four “Level 2” EV Charging Stations with SAE 1772 J-Plug and one “Level 3 – DC Fast Charger” EV Charging Station with SAE 1772 J-Plug & CHAdeMO Plug. These will be available to students, faculty, staff, and the general public. The fee structure and charging rate remain to be determined. Construction is anticipated to be completed by July 2022.

The lessons learned from this pilot project will be instrumental in the future expansion of NOVA’s EV charging stations to other campuses.

Stay tuned!
