Dr. George Gabriel Appointed to President’s Commission on White House Fellowships

Dr. George E. Gabriel has been appointed to the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships. Gabriel is one of 22 commissioners who will be responsible for recommending a slate of candidates to President Biden for selection as White House Fellows, a prestigious program recognizing leadership and public service that provides young Americans with experience working at the highest levels of the federal government.

“These leaders represent the best of America—our collective character, creativity and diversity. I am grateful these dedicated and accomplished Americans will help select and mentor the next class of White House Fellows who demonstrate exceptional leadership, unwavering passion and a strong commitment to public service,” said President Biden.

Gabriel retired this spring after 24 years at the College. He came to NOVA as director of institutional research in 1997 and has held the titles of associate VP of institutional research, planning and assessment; acting VP of academic and student services; VP of research planning and assessment; acting VP of institutional advancement, which then included marketing, media relations, graphics, the Call Center and WSDM (Web Services and Digital Media). He has served under the leadership of five NOVA presidents, including Drs. Richard Ernst, Belle Wheelan, Bob Templin, Scott Ralls, Mel Schiavelli’s two stints as interim president and Anne Kress.
