Acting Chief of Staff Appointed
Recently, the Chief of Staff search concluded, and while the search committee did an excellent job in advancing qualified candidates, the current practice of not advertising the salary ranges for administrative and professional faculty positions caused us to fall short of securing a final candidate. This is not the only search that has been impacted by this practice. So going forward, NOVA HR is increasing transparency in the search process by including salary ranges when posting administrative and professional faculty positions, similar to the current practice now in place for classified staff positions. This change will ensure that the time-intensive work of the search committee and hiring supervisor is focused on applicants who understand and accept the salary range associated with the position.
Rather than restart the Chief of Staff search in the middle of summer, I have asked Associate Director of Governmental Relations Tykesha Myrick to take on some aspects of the Chief of Staff role for the upcoming academic year. She will continue her work in federal governmental relations for NOVA, and as of July 1, she will add responsibilities for collegewide project management and strategic initiatives to her existing portfolio, reporting directly to me on these matters as the acting Chief of Staff. Those of you who know Tykesha know her incredible strengths in these areas, the depth of her knowledge of NOVA, and her dedication to our students and mission. I am grateful to her for agreeing to expand her responsibilities over this year. The Chief of Staff search will reconvene in Spring 2022.
Again, my thanks to the Chief of Staff search committee, chaired by Vice President Steve Partridge, and to Tykesha Myrick for taking on this acting role.
