Nigel Word: NOVA’s New Director of Student Leadership & Engagement!
We are pleased to announce that Nigel Word will transition to the Division of Student Services as the new director of student leadership and engagement.
Within a few weeks of the pandemic, and just a few months of starting at NOVA, Nigel was selected to serve as the chair of the Student Life Work Group where he worked closely with his colleagues to usher in an era of never before seen virtual offerings in student life, staff collaboration and teamwork, and overall enhancements. Because of his work with the SL Team, he was asked to serve as the interim director of student leadership and engagement in January 2021.
Nigel is originally from Long Island, Va., and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Lynchburg (Va.) and his master’s degree in education in college student personnel administration at James Madison University. Professionally, he is passionate about creating impactful experiences and inclusive environments for all students. Personally, he most enjoys being a dad to his daughter, Nora Joy; hiking with his dog, Willow; singing; reading; cooking and being with his closest family and friends.
Please join me in welcoming Nigel to his new role beginning July 10. His office will be temporarily located at the WO Campus in WS 158-C.
