Telework Working Group Update on Expanded Telework Program for Employees

July 13, 2021 / HR News/Training

The Telework Working Group reconvened on July 6 to begin discussion on a second phase of NOVA’s expanded telework program. This second phase includes a review of additional positions to be considered for 100% telework eligibility. Vice presidents and provosts with oversight of campus-based positions have requested that telework eligibility for campus-based positions be put on hold until the campuses have returned to full campus operations. Therefore, this next phase will focus on identifying additional 100% telework eligible positions that are based at the Pender complex, the Brault building and the Pitney Bowes building.

To support 100% telework eligibility, supervisors are asked to complete a checklist of job considerations that focus on the purpose of the position and job responsibilities as outlined in the EWP. Additionally, employees and supervisors who have telework privileges must complete the appropriate training to ensure teleworking meets the business needs of the department and is a successful and productive use of time (see Telework Toolkit).

Recommendations for additional positions to move to 100% telework must be supported by the supervisor and approved by the appropriate Admin Council member. Admin Council members with oversight of positions at Pender, Brault and Pitney Bowes have been asked to submit a list of additional positions identified for 100% telework by July 16, 2021.

For positions that are not identified as eligible for 100% telework, employees may be permitted to telework up to one day per week with supervisor and Admin Council representative approval. Employees at the level of AVP/Dean/Director and higher are expected to work on-site.

As NOVA employees and students return to campus, the Telework Working Group will continue to assess the telework program and recommend updates and changes as appropriate.
