NOVA, MEC Bid Fond Farewell to Fahmeen Faruki

July 20, 2021 / Faculty/Staff Highlights

It is with deepest sadness that we share the passing of Fahmeen Faruki.

Fahmeen started her NOVA journey at the Annandale Campus in the mid 90’s. After leaving the college for almost a decade, she returned as nursing retention counselor at the Medical Education Campus. And most recently, she served as Academic Success Counselor for the MEC.

Fahmeen greeted everyone with a smile and was a very kind person. She was passionate about assisting students and spoke five languages. As a linguist, she would often share notes and cards filled with eloquent and thoughtful messages.

As she struggled through her recent diagnosis and treatment, she wrote a note to Acting Provost Dr. Beatrice McKeithen. In her note, Fahmeen borrowed from Albert Camus, “In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.”  She was courageous and compassionate to the very end. Fahmeen will be sorely missed.
