Go Nighthawks! – Greetings from VPAA/CAO

August 20, 2021 / General NOVA News

Dear Colleagues, I would like to welcome all of you back to our campuses and express my sincere gratitude for your dedicated service to our students and to NOVA.

As you are aware, I started my post as the vice president of academic affairs and chief academic officer at NOVA on July 1. I very much appreciate the warm welcome and help from many different units during the past seven weeks. My visits to all six campuses and meetings with faculty, provosts, Administrative Council members, Academic Affairs unit staff, Academic Deans’ Council members and the College Senate leaders during July provided me with a great deal of information about NOVA.

I acknowledge that it will be hard to replace Dr. Sheri Robertson, who served as the Interim Chief Academic Officer and made so many achievements for NOVA. I will try my best to continue with the success she started in the Academic Affairs area.

While I have only been at NOVA for a short time, I have already witnessed that many faculty, staff and administrators are very dedicated to enabling our students’ success and strive for excellence in their service. I believe that all employees, having the common goal to achieve the institution’s mission, are key for the success of our college. Several important topics need to be addressed this fall including public health concerns, the SACSCOC accreditation visit, and the implementation of direct enrollment. I am confident that we can overcome any challenges and accomplish these important tasks by working together.

As instruction for the fall semester will start next week, I truly hope your classes will go as well as planned. Please do not hesitate to let me or the Academic Affairs unit know how we can better assist you in improving the quality of our education and learning environment. I would also encourage you to share with us any innovative ideas you have on teaching pedagogies and best practice models.

Have a great fall semester! Go Nighthawks!

Sincerely,

Eun-Woo Chang, Ph.D.
