The Office of Wellness and Mental Health is pleased to announce two Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training sessions for fall 2021 for NOVA staff and faculty. MHFA helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. During the MHFA training, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations and where to turn for help.

Participants will complete a two-hour, self-paced online class, and then participate in two three-hour instructor-led video conferences.

What participants will learn:

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental illness
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance use
  • How to interact with a person in crisis
  • How to connect the person with help
  • NEW: Expanded content on trauma, addiction and self-care

The first virtual training session will be offered Thursday, October 14 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. AND Thursday, October 21 from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.  The second virtual training session will be offered Tuesday, November 9 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. AND Tuesday, November 16 from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.
