Coming This Semester: “Chordeiles”!

August 31, 2021 / General NOVA News

Coming this semester: “Chordeiles”! (KOR – DYE – LEES): Chordeiles is an interdisciplinary online peer-reviewed journal of student writing across the sciences! We hope to have the first issue published this fall. To do so, we need faculty help!

Chordeiles will publish student-authored writings in the sciences, including novel research and studies, exemplary lab reports, essays, research writing, environmental and nature writing, scientific translation, medical writing, poetry, science fiction and everything else that students create … as long as it is connected to the sciences in some way.

In addition, Chordeiles wants to publish scientific illustration, drawing and artwork, photography, exemplary data and graphics presentations, and all other science-related genres of communication!

This is novel work! NO COMMUNITY COLLEGE in the nation has a publication like we envision! We are breaking new ground … so, if you want to join in the effort, just ask!

How Faculty can help:

  • Consider creating assignments that can lead to publication in Chordeiles. If you need help designing an assignment that could fit in Chordeiles, or would like to inquire about it, just reach out! We are happy to help.
  • Suggest, recommend, and encourage that students submit their awesome science-related creations to Chordeiles for consideration.
  • Tell your students about the opportunity to publish or to join the student staff! (We will be recruiting STUDENT EDITORS very soon!)
  • Volunteer to be a Faculty Reviewer of student submissions (a great AAPDO!) We will have many opportunities for faculty across the disciplines to read, review, and critique student writing. No matter your discipline, we will have need of faculty expertise in the review process.

We will be sending out our first Call for Submission soon!
