Last Day for Students to Register for NOVA’s 2nd Savings Challenge

August 31, 2021 / Our Nighthawks

Last spring, 40 students were challenged to save $250 between April and May. Collectively, these students saved over $10,000 and received a matching contribution from the NOVA Foundation.

Based on student feedback, we are:

  1. hosting the Savings Challenge again;
  2. opening it up to more students;
  3. offering a more significant match.

The challenge is available to 100 students. The NOVA Foundation will match savings up to $500. That is $50,000 in financial support from the NOVA Foundation.

The match will be in the form of a scholarship credited to the students’ account. The SAVERLIFE application will be used to track student saving efforts and confirmed participants will receive a welcome email and video that explains the rules of the challenge and how students can earn the entire match.

To be eligible for the match:

  • Students must be registered and confirmed to participate in the savings challenge.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least 1 three-credit course at NOVA.
  • Students must receive a regular income (e.g., paycheck, unemployment benefits, etc.). Grants, scholarships and financial aid are not eligible forms of income.
  • Students must sign the student agreement.

Student Testimonials

Thank you for giving me and other students an opportunity to put away money. It’s kind of hard to save money when you are constantly having to spend money. Thank you for giving me another chance to have a savings.

Thank you so much for sponsoring this challenge! I am so grateful for the opportunity to participate. Times have been hard this past year, and this challenge was very fun and educational for me.

Thank you so much for this opportunity. It has not only changed my outlook on saving, it has allowed me to make sure I have funds to have a much-needed procedure. This is a fantastic opportunity for many, and I hope you continue to provide this service for students in need!”

Diana Yacob will be your host again for this challenge. Students must register by Tuesday, August 31, 2021.
