Anne Kress Named to Virginia Business Magazine’s “2021 Virginia 500 Power List”

September 1, 2021 / Faculty/Staff Highlights

NOVA President Anne M. Kress was named to Virginia Business Magazine’s “Virginia 500: 2021 Power List.” In its second year, the list names “500 of Virginia’s most powerful and influential leaders who have made significant contributions to the Virginia business community.” It names leaders in 20 categories, among them Education. A recurring theme among Virginia education leaders was how college leadership kept things afloat and even profitable during the pandemic. For Kress, the magazine cited her ability to forge partnerships with businesses for regional workforce development, her work with Gov. Northam’s G3 (Get Skilled, Get a Job, Give Back) initiative; her efforts to launch a task force on higher education and opportunity; and receiving a $1 million grant from Bank of America Corp. for job skills training in support of students of color.

Virginia Business Magazine has a readership of about 20,000 and publishes monthly. Honorees in the Power List were chosen based on surveys and initial nominations from peers, business leaders and economic officials; reviews of annual revenues, media presence, community involvement, diversity, number of employees (in Virginia and worldwide) and how large a presence the organization has in the Commonwealth; and individual surveys of candidates.

Kress is in great company as one of 25 Virginia education leaders featured, including VCCS Chancellor, Dr. Glenn DuBois; President of James Madison University, Jonathan Alger; SCHEV Director, Peter Blake; Virginia Secretary of Education, Atif Qarni; Superintendent of Public Education for Virginia, James Lane; President of Norfolk State University, Javaune Adams-Gaston; VP and Executive Director of Virginia Tech’s brand new Innovation Campus, Lance Collins and many more impressive leaders in higher education.
