NOVA Serves & 9/11 Remembrance Events
Both pausing to reflect and being active in service are cornerstones of our NOVA community. As we mark the 20th anniversary of the tragedy of September 11, 2001, together we will be reflecting as well on serving. The happenings of September 11 brought about great loss of loved ones and also shined a light on the heroism and bravery of our first responders.
In service to our first responders and local healthcare providers at a time of great demand, NOVA is partnering with INOVA hospitals to host two Mobile Blood Drives.
- Tuesday, September 7, Alexandria Campus, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. You can sign up to donate here.
- Wednesday, September 8, Manassas Campus, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sign up to donate here.
Later in the week, as we pause in remembrance, there will be a virtual “9/11 Remembrance – 20 Years Gone By” event held on Friday, September 10, at 10 a.m. with special speakers including Dr. Anne Kress, NOVA Police’s Chief Dan Dusseau, and Lt. John Weinstein and the MEC’s Gary Sargent. Be sure to register to attend.
To capstone the remembrance, on Saturday, September 11, 11 a.m., there will be a Commemorative One-Mile Walk–or 1,980 steps (the distance from the ground to the top of the World Trade Center). The walk will be hosted at the Woodbridge Campus and supports the mission of The First Responder’s Children’s Foundation, which is concurrently celebrating its 20th Anniversary.
