Become a NOVA Search Advocate

September 15, 2021 / HR News/Training

NOVA HR is looking for volunteers from across the College to serve as search advocates. Search advocates support NOVA’s commitment to creating a more diverse, fair, inclusive and equitable workplace by eliminating unconscious, unintentional biases and upholding a transparent, inclusive search and selection practices.

Search advocates will learn principles and strategies to advance NOVA’s strategic diversity goals, equal opportunity principles, and diversity and inclusion values. Search advocates will work collaboratively with hiring managers and search committees to enhance the integrity and effectiveness of the search and selection process. They will provide guidance and support by identifying barriers in the recruitment process and help identify a diverse, qualified pool of candidates.

The next training for search advocates will be facilitated by Carla Kimbrough, the VCCS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer. The training will be held via Zoom from October 11 through October 15 from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. All interested full-time faculty and classified employees are encouraged to volunteer and work with their supervisor and appropriate Administrative Council member to submit the Search Advocate – Statement of Interest Form to SearchAdvocate@nvcc.edu no later than Friday, September 17.
