History Reading Group Is Back for 2021-2022 Academic Year!
The History Reading Group, begun by Annandale History Professor Nathaniel Green, is back for the 2021-2022 academic year! We welcome participation by NOVA faculty and staff, no matter what you teach or if you teach!
Like last year, we will be reading books recently published by black women scholars, especially about topics related to the history of race (but not necessarily confined to that topic) and discussing how the books’ insights can help us in our DEI efforts, our teaching and our overall collective efforts to make NOVA a more inclusive and equitable community.
The group’s books are selected by its participants, so if you’d like to help us pick which books to read, please join! All you have to do is reach out to Professor Green at ncgreen@nvcc.edu and tell him you are interested, and you’ll get updates about the Reading Group.
The first meeting will be Friday, Oct. 8, at a time yet to be determined. The group will be reading Marcia Chatelain’s Franchise: The Golden Arches in Black America (Liveright, 2020). If you would like to join us, please purchase or check out the book and read it ahead of the October 8 meeting.
Even if you can’t make that meeting, please reach out if you are interested in participating in future meetings. The History Reading Group will meet approximately once every other month.
We hope you will join us!
