An Afternoon with Sphinx Virtuosi (Chamber Orchestra)
Come, music lovers and orchestra enthusiasts, to an afternoon of classical play and student discussion! In collaboration with George Mason University’s Artist-in-Residence Program, Student Life is hosting a virtual afternoon with Sphinx Virtuosi! Sphinx is a Detroit-based chamber orchestra dedicated to increasing racial and ethnic diversity in classical music. The group seeks to transform lives through the power of diversity in the arts.
The virtual event takes place Monday, Oct. 18, from 4 p.m.-5 p.m. and will feature a quartet of Sphinx Virtuosi musicians playing 1-2 pieces of music and discussion throughout the session. Want to ask about what it’s like to be a professional musician? Want to know how they transform classical music from the old traditions? Be sure to tune in! We hope you will enjoy this virtual mini-concert and an inside look into the work of this dynamic orchestra.
Also, to kick off their Residency, Sphinx is performing Tracing Visions at George Mason University on Sunday, Oct. 17! All NOVA students can get tickets at 50% off. Starting on Oct. 5, NOVA Students can use the coupon code FALL2021 for a 50% discount on up to two tickets to Sphinx Virtuosi.
Please share this event with students! Student Life is also looking for a student moderator to help facilitate the question and answer with Sphinx. No experience necessary! If you know of any students interested in classical music, composition, or working in the professional field please refer them to Charlotte Lombardo.
