LO-Waddell Gallery Presents “BLUES” Exhibition by Rebecca Cross

September 27, 2021 / Events

Coming up in the Waddell Art Gallery on the NOVA’s Loudoun Campus: BLUES: The Color, the Music, and the State of Mind. The exhibition debuts on Monday, Sept. 27 and runs through Oct. 29, 2021. Curated by Rebecca Cross of Cross MacKenzie Gallery, it explores enthusiasm for blue(s) in many forms.

“This was the year of the blues. Our collective experience of sadness and loss is embodied in the color blue,” Cross said. “But there are positive connotations of the color, too; under blue skies, feeling the calm, tranquility, serenity of the hue and even, according to Kandinsky, the spirituality.”

“In his Sonnets in Color – ‘blue is the typical heavenly colour.'” And the more contemporary author of the heartbreaking “Into the Blue,” Derek Jarman, wrote ‘Blue is the universal love in which man bathes—it is the terrestrial paradise’–the sublime. This exhibition aims to explore the meanings of blue.'”

Mark your calendar for the curator’s reception, which will take place from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13.
