NPR’s Code Switch Comes to NOVA, Oct. 13

September 30, 2021 / Events

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is excited to partner with the Manassas Campus to bring you our October Spotlight Event! On Wednesday, Oct. 13, award-winning journalist and celebrated NPR podcast host Gene Demby will take part in a virtual conversation about the value of diversity.

Mr. Demby is the founding co-host of NPR’s popular Code Switch podcast, winner of the 2014 Online News Association Award for Commentary and the 2021 Apple Podcast of the Year. Prior to NPR, he served as the managing editor for Huffington Post‘s BlackVoices following its launch, and before that he spent six years at The New York Times. While working for the Times, he started PostBourgie, a blog about race, culture, politics and media which won the 2009 Black Weblog Award for Best News/Politics Site. Mr. Demby is an avid runner, mainly because he wants to stay alive long enough to finally see the Sixers and Eagles win championships in their respective sports. You can follow him on Twitter at @GeeDee215.

Mr. Demby will deliver remarks starting at approximately 3 p.m., followed by an open discussion with Manassas Campus faculty, staff and students. All NOVA faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend by registering at the Zoom link for the October DEI Spotlight Event.

If you have questions or would like more information, visit the Office of DEI’s web site at or contact Dr. Nathan Carter, chief DEI officer, at nacarter@nvcc.edu.
